Earthquakes

Let me start off by saying that I hate earthquakes. It is not something I grew up with and not something I am used to. In fact, I had never felt one until I moved here in 2002 and it only took a few weeks being here for me to experience my first one. Needless to say, I did not have fun today...

I was in a back corner of the hospital getting some paper work off of the "communication board," when the shaking started. I stood there frozen for a few seconds, and then ran to the main door, where everyone was standing and our doctor had crawled under the pharmacy desk. I stood in front of the vaccine fridge, which probably wasn't the smartest, but I couldn't even begin to think straight. One of the nurses had a dog on her arms: her and the doctor were working on a dog that came in about 10 min. before because it was hit by a car.

There was no damage in the hospital and the store had a few items fall of the shelves. When I got home tonight, there was a few picture frames that had fallen over, one thing fell off the wall, some things fell into the bathroom sink and it looked like poor Willie got sloshed around pretty good. I first noticed water missing from his tank, then I found the water on the kitchen counter and floor. Luckily, he is fine and didn't slosh out of the tank along with the water. I would have been very sad. I have to say that I am very glad it wasn't a stronger quake and that there wasn't too much damage done...not just my place, but in general.

After things had settled down after the quake, one of the girls at work said I looked so pale and that my lips were the color of paper. I was shaking like crazy and on the verge of crying. This was the strongest one I have ever felt. What can I say...there is just something freaky and wrong about feeling the earth move and roll underneath your feet.
